Information Technology is the major part that leads the society towards modernization. IT has become an important integral part of the society and business houses. Today’s managers, professionals, academicians and the individuals need IT education to enhance their knowledge. Pokhara University has offered some practical and professional subjects like computer application, Programming and Management Information System for BBA and MBA level. MIS is offered as a special subject on MBA and BBA fifth semester. There is no standard book that covered whole syllabus of MIS curriculum. I have developed this book so that student will get complete course contents and teacher will get basic guideline how to instruct students. I have developed this book with reference to the framework of old questions asked by Pokhara University.
I have divided this book into ten chapters according to the syllabus provided by the Pokhara University.
Chapter one is related to the introduction part of MIS. It includes basic concept of organization, management, and definition of MIS, characteristics, role and other issues related to the MIS etc.
Chapter two is related to data and information. It includes the concepts of data and information, information system, components of IS, information technology and its importance on business etc.
Chapter three is related to computer software. It includes definition of software, types of software, concept of programming languages, software issues, concepts of ERP and CAD etc.
Chapter four is related to system analysis and design. It includes concepts of system, SDLC, system analysis, feasibility study, system design, system development and testing etc.
Chapter five is related to database resource management. It includes concept of database system, types of database, data warehousing, data mining, SQL, DBA etc.
Chapter six is related to electronic commerce. It includes the concept of e-commerce, types of e-commerce, components of e-commerce, electronic payments and legal and social issues etc.
Chapter seven is related to decision support system. It includes the concept of DSS, components of DSS, risk and advantages of DSS, concepts of OLAP etc.
Chapter eight is related to telecommunication and networks. It includes telecommunication system, types of networking, network topology, transmission media etc.
Chapter nine is related to implementing IT. It includes the concept ethical issues, social issues related to IT, impacts of IT on organization and management, impact on individuals etc.
Chapter ten is related to computer based information system (case study). It includes some case studies from different fields and some burning issues related to IT.
